§ Mr. Bestasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement about the progress of the pilot scheme detoxification centres in Leeds and Manchester; and whether he intends to make provision for further centres in order to assist habitual drinkers.

The pilot centres in Leeds and Manchester which were funded by the Department for limited experimental periods until November 1979 and November 1980 respectively are now being supported locally. A decision on policy on detoxification centres will follow the completion of an evaluation research programme commissioned by the Department, the results of which will be available in the latter half of 1982.
