§ Mr. HurdAs stated in the Venice declaration, we do not accept any unilateral initiatives to change the status of Jerusalem. The future of the city as a whole needs to be resolved in negotiation between the parties concerned as part of a wider peace settlement. East Jerusalem, which was occupied by Israel in 1967, remains subject to the provisions of resolution 242 concerning Israeli withdrawal.
