§ Mr. Haynesasked the right hon. Member for Middlesbrough, as representing the House of Commons Commission, (1) whether an inspector of staffing is being or has been appointed for House of Commons staff;
(2) whether the proposed new inspector of staffing will be appointed from internal applications; what will be his duties and salary; and to whom he will be responsible.
§ Mr. Arthur BottomleyA staff inspector has been appointed, who served previously in the Civil Service Department. The Commission is currently reviewing his conditions of service, including salary, and the terms of a draft directive to assist him in carrying out his duties. Although the staff inspector is to report to the Commission only, he will be available for consultation by the Administration Committee, the trade union side of the Whitley Committee, and any individual member of the staff.
