§ Mr. Hannamasked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he will seek to implement the recommendations of the report of the European Parliament on the motions for resolutions concerning the economic, social and vocational integration of disabled people in the European Community, with particular reference to the International Year of Disabled People 1981, which fall within the responsibility of his Department; and if he will make a statement;
(2) if he will seek to implement the recommendations of the report of the Economic and Social Committee of the European Communities on the situation and problems of the handicapped which fall within the responsibility of his Department; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. RossiThe resolution of the European Parliament and the opinion of the Economic and Social Committee of the European Communities assisted the European Commission in its consideration of the integration of disabled people. This consideration led to the Commission's communication on the social integration of disabled people. I welcomed this on behalf of the United Kingdom at the meeting of the Labour and Social Affairs Council on 8 December. Many of the recommendations for member States in the resolution and the opinion reflect current practice within the United Kingdom.
