§ Mr. Gordon Wilsonasked the Secretary of State for Energy what is his estimate of oil refining capacity in Scotland; and how this compares with the level of demand and oil production off Scottish shores.
§ Mr. GrayCrude oil refining capacity in Scotland for the year 1980 amounted to about 8 million tonnes. Product demand for the same period was about 7 million tonnes, but technical, commercial and geographical factors make it impossible for the required product mix to be supplied solely from Scottish refineries.
Crude oil production from the United Kingdom continental shelf is shown on a field-by-field basis in appendix 1 of the report to Parliament on the "Development of the oil and gas resources of the United Kingdom" dated April 1981.
