§ Mr. Winnickasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many of those who are now paying income tax solely because the personal allowances were not raised in the last Budget in accordance with the increase in inflation have total incomes of £2,000, £2,100, £2,200, £2,300, £2,400, £2,500, £2,600, £2,700, £2,800, £2,900 and £3,000; how many of those affected are widows and how many of these are aged 60 years and over; and if he will give the average income in cases of the widows so affected.
§ Mr. Ridley[pursuant to his reply, 10 December 1981, c. 474]: I regret that estimates of the numbers by income range at this level of detail are not available. On the number of widows, I refer the hon. Member to the answer given by my hon. and learned Friend the then Minister of 62W State to the hon. Member for Derby, North (Mr. Whitehead) on 1 June 1981 [Vol. 5, c. 265–66]. There is insufficient information to estimate the average amount involved.
