HC Deb 09 December 1981 vol 14 c403W
28. Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the effectiveness of the "Locate in Scotland" unit in encouraging overseas investment in Scotland and the extent to which these activities have contributed towards the provision of employment in Scotland.

Mr. Younger

It is too early to make conclusive judgments about the effectiveness of "Locate in Scotland", but I am greatly encouraged by the promising start that it has made.

LIS has taken a leading role in securing several new investments by overseas companies and further investment by overseas companies already established in Scotland. The number of jobs expected to arise or be safeguarded as a result of investment decisions announced this year is about 4,000.
