HC Deb 09 December 1981 vol 14 c402W
25. Mr. Henderson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on progress with negotiations towards a common fisheries policy and the 1982 guide prices for fish.

Mr. Younger

I refer to the reply that I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Moray and Nairn (Mr. Pollock) on 11 November.—[Vol. 12, c.97.].

Although the council meeting arranged for 30 November did not take place, we have continued by means of bilateral discussions to work towards a settlement and I hope that this will facilitate progress at the Council scheduled for 14 December.

In negotiations on the Commission's proposed guide prices for 1982 we have been pressing for significantly higher prices for species of importance to our industry where this is justified by market trends.
