§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if the Government intend to act on the proposals of the report of the sub-committee of Bradford council on safeguards for the adoption of children; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Geoffrey FinsbergI assume that my hon. Friend is referring to the report of the enquiry sub-committee that was convened by the Bradford area review committee (child abuse), following the death of a child who had been placed for adoption. The sub-committee's recommendations on adoption procedures and practice are for Bradford metropolitan district council and the other local agencies concerned to consider in the first instance. The Department is also considering whether any guidance should be issued to adoption agencies nationally.
