HC Deb 03 December 1981 vol 14 c224W
Mr. Norman Atkinson

asked tile Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the maximum grant a 19-year-old university student living away from home can expect to receive together with any supplementary entitlements of any kind assuming that his or her single parent has an income of not more than £4,500 per annum.

Mr. Waldegrave

In the 1981–82 academic year a university student in these circumstances and without dependants could expect to receive the maximum maintenance grant of £1,825 if he was attending an establishment in London or £1,535 elsewhere. In addition any travelling expenses over and above £50 a year which the student was obliged to incur for the purpose of attending the establishment would be paid together with supplementary maintenance of £37.80 in London or £28.15 elsewhere in respect of each week of required attendance at the course in excess of 30 weeks and three days during the academic year.
