Between 1 May 1979 and 31 October 1981, 24 instances of redundancy involving 10 or more people and resulting in factory closure have been notified to the Manpower Services Commission as due to occur in Dundee, with the loss of 903 jobs. In the same period, another 52 firms have notified redundancies affecting 6,381 workers.
