§ Mr. RifkindAs part of the monitoring of the operation of the Bail etc. (Scotland) Act 1980, a statistical survey has been carried out covering approximately 45 per cent. of sheriff court cases. In the courts covered by the survey, during the first nine months of the operation of the Act, 7,822 accused persons were released on bail. In only 115 of that number, or less than 1.5 per cent., was money bail involved. In the same period 57 persons were remanded either having failed to find money bail or having refused the bail conditions; but a precise breakdown of the latter figure between money bail and bail conditions is not available.
