Mr. NicholasBaker asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he intends to carry out a revaluation of rateable premises; and what action he will take to reduce anomalies arising from the exclusion from rating of small rate increases under section 21 of the Local Government Act 1974 until the next revaluation in the light of the postponement of the valuation he has made.
§ Mr. KingThe Government have no present intention to conduct a general rating revaluation, since we could not justify commissioning a revaluation while the rating system is under review. We are looking at the problems caused by the operation of section 21 of the Local Government Act 1974 as part of this review.
