§ Mr. Michael Brownasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the total sum made available to the law centres funded under the urban programme during the last year for which figures are available; and by what amount the total sum has risen or decreased since May 1979.
§ Mr. KingIn 1979–80 about £870,000 was paid under the urban programme in respect of 20 law centres. In 1980–81 about £1.2 million was approved in respect of 24 law centres. Applications for these centres have to be individually approved by Ministers. We require them to act in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Lord Chancellor.
