§ Mr. Torneyasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what consultations took place between his Department and the police authority in connection with the inquiry into the conduct of the Chief Constable of the West Yorkshire police and the appointment of a senior officer from another force to head the investigations; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. WhitelawHer Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary informed the West Yorkshire metropolitan police authority of allegations against senior officers in that force which had been drawn to his attention., and in accordance with the Home Office guidance on police complaints and discipline, a copy of which is available in the Library, assisted in the selection of the Chief Constable of West Midlands to carry out an investigation. His report 15W will be submitted in due course to the Director of Public Prosecutions and to the police authority. It would not be appropriate for me to comment further at this stage.
