§ Mr. MayhewStatutory authority for police authorities in England and Wales to appoint traffic wardens is given in section 81 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1967, as amended by the Road Traffic Act 1972. The command structure of the Metropolitan Police traffic warden service is not laid down by statute or statutory instrument. The Commissioner's annual report contains information about the service; and, like other parts of the force, the service is inspected by the Metropolitan Police inspectorate, whose reports my right hon. Friend receives.
