§ Mr. Greville Jannerasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will ensure that exceptional needs payments are available to those on supplementary benefit to cover where appropriate school clothing in cases where school uniform grants are no longer available from local education authorities.
§ Mrs. ChalkerSingle payments for distinctive school uniforms are specifically precluded under regulation 6(2)(b) of the Supplementary Benefit (Single Payments) Regulations 1980—SI 1980 No. 985. My right hon. Friend has no plans at present to amend the regulations in this respect.
