§ Mr. Garel-Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he will make a statement on British companies' reports for the period 1 July 1979 to 30 June 1980 under the code of conduct for companies with interests in South Africa.
§ Mr. ParkinsonBy 31 March the Department had received 184 reports of various types under the code of conduct, for the 12 months ended 30 June 1980. An analysis and summary by the Department of the reports, together with copies of the reports themselves, have been placed in the Libraries of both Houses. This material may also be consulted at the Department's headquarters library, and at the British embassy, Pretoria, the British consulates-general at Johannesburg and Cape Town and the British consulate at Durban.
The Government believe it is in the interests of British companies with affiliates in South Africa to follow the code, and they will continue to encourage companies to do so. I am grateful to those companies which have devoted their time and resources to preparing and publishing these latest reports.
