§ Dr. McDonaldasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will now give estimates of the effect of his Budget measures on the retail price index and the tax and price index compared with the values they would have if personal allowances were increased in line with section 22(2) of the Finance Act 1977 and excluding the effect of increases in duties.
§ Mr. Brittan[pursuant to the reply, 7 April 1981, c. 221]: The tax and price index will be roughly 2 to 2½ per cent. higher than it would have been. There is no difference in the impact on the retail price index.
