§ Mr. Thomas Coxasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give the number of job vacancies at employment offices covering the London borough of Wandsworth as of 1 March 1981, and the figures for the same date in 1980, 1979, 1978 and 1977.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonThe following table gives, for the count dates in March of each of the years specified, the numbers of notified vacancies remaining unfilled at employment offices and at careers offices in the area covered by the Clapham Junction and Tooting employment offices, which closely corresponds to the London borough of Wandsworth.
112WThe figures relate only to those vacancies notified to employment offices and careers offices; vacancies notified to employment offices are estimated to be about one-third of all vacancies in the country as a whole. Because of possible duplication the figures for employment offices and careers offices should not be added together.
At employment offices At careers offices 4 March 1977 602 63 3 March 1978 890 74 2 March 1979 952 115 7 March 1980 708 42 6 March 1981 (provisional) 308 22 The number of vacancies unfilled on a particular date takes no account of the flow of vacancies being notified, filled, or withdrawn during the preceding month, which may reflect activity more closely.
