§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attenton has been drawn to the remarks of Judge Charles Pitchford of the Appeal Court at Newport on Thursday 24 March concerning the radar equipment known as Muniquip; and whether he will issue a general circular to the police that they should cease to use this instrument, in view of its proven inefficiency and faults.
§ Mr. MayhewWe are aware of the remarks made by Judge Pitchford. This is a matter for chief officers of police, but I understand that the Muniquip radar meter has performed satisfactorily since 1978, and there is no reason to think that it is inefficient if operated in accordance with the recommended guidelines. Chief officers will, however, be reviewing these guidelines to see whether any amendments are necessary.
