HC Deb 28 October 1980 vol 991 cc236-7W
Mr. Shore

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether the Government intend to sign the United Nations convention on the elimination of discrimination against women; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Luce

The Government are examining the text of the convention in the hope that we will be able to sign it.

Before reaching a decision we must, among other considerations, take account of United Kingdom provisions on nationality, on which new legislation is to be introduced. We must also allow time for the completion of consultations with the dependent territories, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
