HC Deb 28 October 1980 vol 991 c270W
14. Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if the programme by the Property Services Agency to adapt at least one public building in 56 towns in Great Britain during 1979–80 in order to make them accessible to disabled people has been abandoned; and when the decision was made.

Mr. Stanley

The programme has not been abandoned. The list was subsequently extended to cover 71 towns; work has been completed in 30 of them. I expect work to be completed in another 12 during this financial year, and in six more in 1981–82; work in two others is due to start in 1981–82.

Schemes in 13 of the towns have been abandoned because no buildings suitable for adaptation could be identified. Investigations continue in the eight remaining towns.
