HC Deb 28 October 1980 vol 991 cc230-1W
27. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will cause an investigation to be made to ascertain why it takes his Department many months to reply to communications even when such replies give information which is readily available and could be dispatched within hours of receipt of the original letters.

Mr. Raison

No. Every effort is made to ensure that there are no avoidable delays in answering letters sent to our Department by hon. Members. But the heavy and increasing amount of correspondence with hon. Members is placing an obvious and costly burden on its administration.
