Mr. Rooker

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list for the latest convenient date the amounts of uncollected income tax, corporation tax, value added tax, capital gains tax and capital transfer tax.

Mr. Lawson:

The amounts of income tax, corporation tax and capital gains tax outstanding at the end of the accounting year to 31 October 1979 together with the amounts collectible at that date are shown below.

At 31 March 1980 capital transfer tax of £9.1 million remained uncollected on assessments raised by 31 March 1978 and £7.0 million on assessments raised in the year to 31 March 1979.

At 30 September 1980 the total amount of value added tax outstanding was £147 million, £115.5 million in respect of 1979–80 and £31.5 million in respect of earlier years.
