§ Mr. Ernie Rossasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he intends to establish a body similar to the General Teaching Council in Scotland.
§ Dr. Boyson:My right hon. and learned Friend would like to see teaching as a self-governing profession, but this must depend upon agreement by the parties concerned on the basis on which a teachers professional council might be established. He would, however, be ready to listen to suggestions from the interested parties as to how the Department might help to take the matter forward.
