HC Deb 27 October 1980 vol 991 c109W
Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he has any proposals to advise the chairman of the British Steel Corporation or the board on the level of pay settlements in the steel industry; and whether he has had any communications with the chairman on this subject.

Mr. Michael Marshall:

No. The level of pay settlements in the British Steel Corporation is a matter for the corporation itself, but the chairman is well aware of the need for moderation in pay settlements, not least because of the current financial situation of the corporation.
