§ Mr. Greville Jannerasked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (1) whether he will install during the Summer Recess a sound relay system by which Members and others can listen to proceedings in the House at whatever position they are in either by utilising the 2W sound switch on the TV annunicators or by use of a jackplug and earphone system;
(2) whether he will consider the installation of sound relay points around the Palace of Westminster to enable hon. Members, staff and visitors to listen to the proceedings of the House;
(3) whether he will install a jackplug or loudspeaker extension of the sound system of the House in the Table Office to facilitate the working of that office;
(4) whether he will consider the introduction of a system by which the proceedings of the House can be relayed to other parts of the House and to outbuildings so that hon. Members and others can hear the proceedings as they happen;
(5) what he estimates the cost will be of providing the live relaying of the proceedings of the House to all those parts of the House and their outbuildings equipped with television annunciators.
§ Mr. St. John-Stevas:The Services Committee resolved on 20 November 1979 that no system for relaying the broadcast sound of the proceedings of the House in Members' rooms or other parts of the precincts should be introduced. There is no evidence of a changed situation since then.
