Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the level of rate support grant per head of population in (a) Scotland and (b) each district council.

Mr. Younger:

The information requested is in the table below. The figures are based on the amounts of grant prescribed for 1979–80 (the latest year for which information is available) in the Rate Support Grant (Scotland) Order 1979 and the population as estimated at 30 June 1978. As indicated in paragraph 7 of the report on the Rate Support Grant (Scotland) Order 1979 further grant may be payable for 1979–80 subject to a cash limit of £19m. The figures are subject to adjustment when local authorities have sent in final information.
