HC Deb 27 October 1980 vol 991 c95W
Mr. David Steel

asked the Lord Privy Seal if he is satisfied that the British Government's existing contract with British Nuclear Fuels Limited for the extraction of uranium in Namibia will not result in future claims for compensation from an independent government in Namibia.

Mr. Luce:

Her Majesty's Government are not a party to any contract for the extraction of uranium in Namibia. Nor do they accept that there would be any valid legal basis for future claims by the government of an independent Namibia for compensation as a result of the contract which the Central Electricity Generating Board, as assignees from British Nuclear Fuels Limited, has with Rossing Uranium Limited.
