HC Deb 27 October 1980 vol 991 c4W
Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he will take to cure unfair competition against Scottish producers by reason of delivery of Dutch poultry from Holland to areas of the East Aberdeenshire constituency at 10p per kilo cheaper than Scottish wholesale prices.

Mr. Younger:

There is a free market for poultrymeat within the European Economic Community. There is therefore no Community-wide minimum wholesale price for poultrymeat, nor is there any direct link between selling prices and costs of production. Articles 85 and 86 of the Treaty of Rome prohibit unfair trade practices and the abuse of a dominant position, and the Government would pursue any evidence that these articles were being infringed.
