§ Mr. Rookerasked the Prime Minister if she will make a statement detailing any reduction or abolition in the collection or publication of statistics or reports by her Department since May 1979, indicating if such information is available from any other source; and what financial savings have been made by any such changes.
§ The Prime Minister:The Central Statistical Office collects very few statistics 82W directly from the public. Most of its output is derived from data supplied by other Departments. Work on research and development statistics and on price index numbers for current cost accounting is no longer undertaken in the Central Statistical Office. The Rayner review of its work is not yet complete. Economies within the office have resulted in staff reductions of 10 per cent. since May 1979.
