HC Deb 27 October 1980 vol 991 cc74-5W
Mr. Brotherton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prosecutions there have been to date in 1980 of users of citizens band radio equipment.

Mr. Raison:

Between 1 January and 31 August, 276 persons were prosecuted for the unlicensed installation or use of 27 MHz radio-telephone transmitters.

Mr. Brotherton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has to legislate against the advertising and selling of 27 MHz radio equipment.

Mr. Raison:

The importation or manufacture of radio telephone transmitters capable of transmitting on frequencies in the 27 MHz band is already illegal, and we shall be seeking powers to prohibit the sale, hire, or advertising for sale or hire of such equipment as soon as parliamentary time permits.
