HC Deb 24 November 1980 vol 994 cc25-7W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of state for Education and Science how many administrative staff are employed at each United Kingdom university and polytechnic at present; and what is the annual wage bill for each establishment.

Dr. Boyson

The following table shows for universities in the United Kingdom the numbers of full-time administrative staff paid wholly from general university funds in the academic year 1978–79, the latest year for which information is available. Information for the annual salary bill of these staff is not centrally available. The figures cover staff on academically related salary scales and exclude staff involved in teaching and research, and academic services—for example, librarians and computer staff.
