40. Mr. Whitehead

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what recent requests he has received for further financial assistance from Rolls-Royce Ltd.

Mr. Adam Butler

The chairman of Rolls-Royce has informed me of the size of the company's requirements for external finance in 1981. The Government are considering how these requirements should be financed and I will inform the House when a decision has been reached.

I am separately considering with Rolls-Royce the funding of the non-recurring costs which would be faced by Rolls-Royce in the event of purchases of airbuses powered by Rolls-Royce engines.
