HC Deb 24 November 1980 vol 994 cc24-5W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Berwick-upon-Tweed (Mr. Beith) on 8 August, if his Department has yet completed its special exercise to collect early statistics on the numbers of overseas students enrolled for the academic year 1980–81 in the maintained sector of further and higher education; and if he will publish the results of this in the Official Report.

Dr. Boyson

The information to be collected for the special exercise is due to be returned to my Department by 7 December. Provided that colleges comply by the requested date, the results should be available later in December.

Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list the top 20 universities with the highest proportion of overseas students; how many students were enrolled for the academic year 1979–80; what percentage of total students this represented in each case; how many students have enrolled for the current academic year; and what percentage of total students this figure represents.

Dr. Boyson

The information for 1979–80 will take some time to prepare and I shall write to the hon. Member when it becomes available. Provisional information in respect of 1980 is not yet available.
