asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what changes are being made to the cash limit for class XV, vote 1, Law, Order and Protective Services.

Subject to parliamentary approval of the Supplementary Estimates the cash limit for class XV, vote 1, Law, Order and Protective Services, has been increased by £3,930 million to £300.126 million. Part of the increase (£3.0 million) is required to meet the additional costs arising from the 1 September pay award for the police. The remainder of the increase (£0.930 million) caters for the emergency measures being taken for the custody of prisoners as a result of the industrial action by prison officers in Northern Ireland.
