HC Deb 24 November 1980 vol 994 c12W
37. Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how the volume of industrial activity has benefited from European Economic Community membership.

Mr. Adam Butler

The benefits of membership are considerable, although it is impossible to quantify them precisely. United Kingdom trade with our EEC partners has grown significantly and the import—export ratio has improved in recent years. Industry itself has always believed that membership brings substantial benefits.
