§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total cost so far in this current financial year of temporary employment measures in the West Midlands; and what was the cost in 1979.
§ Mr. Jim LesterI regret that not all the figures are available in precisely the form requested. I am, however, able to say that from the commencement of the current financial year to 30 September 1980 and for the financial year 1979–80 the estimated cost for special employment measures for the West Midlands region—unless otherwise stated—was as follows:
§ Mr. Cryerasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many redundancies are currently notified in the Keighley travel-to-work area.
§ Mr. Jim LesterThe number of proposed redundancies currently notified to the Department under the redundancy handling provisions of the Employment Protection Act 1975, in the Keighley travel-to-work area, involve 739 employees employed in 17 firms.
I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the number of redundancies currently notified in the Keighley travel-to-work area involve 173 employees employed in three firms.
These figures are provisional since some redundancies are reported late. Both the Department of Employment and the Manpower Services Commission figures are for redundancies involving 10 or more employees.
