HC Deb 13 November 1980 vol 992 c476W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many housing action areas and general improvement areas there are in the United Kingdom; how many properties are in each; how many properties have been improved; and how many remain to be improved.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

On 30 June 1980 there were 419 housing action areas and 1,336 general improvement areas in operation in England containing approximately 146,400 and 403,000 residential properties respectively. My Department does not have responsibility for questions relating to such areas elsewhere in the United Kingdom.

I shall write to the hon. Member shortly giving the information received from local authorities in England on the number of dwellings which have been improved.
