In 1978–79, the number of students attending institutions of higher and further education in Scotland (including universities) was equivalent to 4.1 per cent. of the home population for Scotland; and the number attending such institutions in the Lanark division of Strathclyde region was equivalent to 2.6 per cent. of the home population of Lanark division.
