HC Deb 13 November 1980 vol 992 c397W
Sir Bernard Braine

asked the Secretary of State for Defence when work will start on the new barracks in Port Stanley, Falkland Islands; and if in the meantime improvements can be made to the Moody Brook camp, which, although condemned in 1978, is still in use.

Mr. Speed

Proposals for providing new barracks for the Royal Marines detachment in the Falkland Islands are under consideration within the Ministry of Defence. Construction would be expected to start some 10 to 20 months—depending on climatic conditions—from the date approval is given for planning to proceed. In the meantime remedial work at Moody Brook camp is to be undertaken to improve living conditions.
