HC Deb 13 November 1980 vol 992 c448W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how much money has been given in grants and loans to Euroweld PX Ltd., Airport Road, Sydenham, Belfast since the firm was taken over by an American company; and whether the Government were informed about anticipated redundancies of 70 men when they agreed to give a further £1 million, one month ago.

Mr. Giles Shaw

Since March 1977 when it was taken over by PX Engineering Inc., the company (PX Nuclear Ltd.) has received selective grant assistance totalling £780,596. A £400,000 loan advanced to the company in 1977 was repaid in 1978.

The Government have not entered any agreement with the company concerning the provision of selective assistance since January 1980; the impending redundancies were not announced until the end of October 1980.
