asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will take steps to encourage the British motor vehicle industry to incorporate diesel fuel engines in new models.

I am satisfied that the British motor vehicle industry is well aware of the growing importance being attached to the use of diesel engines in cars, and is making its plans accordingly. As the hon. Member will no doubt be aware, my right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer in his

Republic of Germany, Sweden, Spain, Japan and Italy. In this period 80 shipments have been received at regular intervals via the ports of Barrow, Harwich, Poole and Southampton.
