HC Deb 13 November 1980 vol 992 c405W
Mr. Adley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many staff are employed in his Department as messengers or general assistants in reception areas; and how this number has increased or decreased in the last 12 months.

Mr. Peter Walker

Except for security guards who control entry to certain buildings, my Department does not employ staff specifically to work in reception areas. In some offices reception work is undertaken by messengers and other staff who combine it with other duties.

On 1 October 1980 my Department employed 26 security guards and 314 messengerial grades. The comparable figures for 1 October 1979 were 26 and 325½ respectively.
