HC Deb 12 November 1980 vol 992 cc252-3W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he is satisfied that Northern Ireland civil servants who do not believe in the existence of God will be treated as a separate group by the Fair Employment Agency's investigation and not be automatically recorded as Protestant or Roman Catholic in accordance with their surnames, forenames or schools attended;

(2) whether the system agreed with the Fair Employment Agency for recording the names of schools attended by Northern Ireland civil servants included adequate safeguards to ensure where a Hindu, Muslim or member of the Baha'ì attended a controlled school, a voluntary school or a voluntary maintained school, he or she will not be recorded as being either a Protestant or Roman Catholic;

(3) whether a civil servant who is a member of the Mormon Church will be recorded separately by the Fair Employment Agency in its investigation into the religious composition of the Northern Ireland Civil Service; and what criteria will be used by the Fair Employment Agency to determine which civil servant is a Mormon.

Mr. Rossi

The recording of information relating to its investigations is a matter entirely for the Fair Employment Agency.
