§ Mr. Gordon Wilsonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what has been the cost to his Department, the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority and the IGS of research, legal fees, and other expenses associated with preparation for and presentation of evidence to the Mullwharcher inquiry at Ayr.
§ Mr. FoxThe major part of the planning inquiry costs falling on the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority and the Institute of Geological Sciences will be borne on the Department of the Environment vote, and are estimated at approximately £60,000. The Department was not represented at the Ayr inquiry as the policy responsibility for radioactive waste research, as it affects Scotland, rests with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland.
