§ Mr. Cryerasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the recent alterations in the notification to his Department of industrial injuries and the consequential arrangements for the notification of industrial accidents to the Health and Safety Executive.
§ Mr. PrenticeWhere an employee suffers an injury as a result of an accident and his employer sends particulars to the Department, regulation 7 of The Notification of Accidents and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1980, (SI 1980 No. 804), which come into operation on 1 January 1981, requires that a copy of these particulars shall be sent by the Department to the Health and Safety Executive.
To enable this to be done, a revised accident report form, combining the information required by the Health and Safety Executive and the Department will be introduced. The form will be sent to employers by local social security offices for completion when a claim for industrial injuries benefit is made. The local office will send a copy of the completed form to the appropriate area office of the Health and Safety Executive.
Where an accident involves fatality or major injury, or there has been a notifiable dangerous occurrence, a separate, immediate notification will be made by the employer direct to the enforcing authority. An explanatory leaflet on this aspect of the new procedures has been prepared by the Health and Safety Executive and has been widely distribu- 551W sidered the feasibility schemes prepared by the Westminster city council and the ted to employers and employers' organisations.
