HC Deb 04 November 1980 vol 991 cc545-6W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the saving in real terms to his Department on social security benefits from each percentage increase in inflation during a benefit year.

Mr. Prentice

Assuming a constant rate of inflation, the saving for each percentage point increase between the annual upratings in November 1979 and November 1980 would be about £100 million.
