§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement about the therapeutic unit at Wormwood Scrubs; if there are plans to close it; and if he will make a statement on the future of the inmates and staff.
§ Mr. BrittanThe hall at Wormwood Scrubs, part of which houses the hospital annex, has to be emptied for redevelopment. Because of the loss of accommodation there appeared to be no room for the annex at Wormwood Scrubs and it was decided to transfer the staff and inmates as a unit temporarily to Grendon prison. The matter is now being reviewed following representations from the board of visitors and others, and I shall write to the hon. Member when a decision has been made.
